One thing I learned doing the kunst en kijk (art and see)project in January/February, is that I needed to "own" these projects for myself. I had to find a way to incorporate my personality and experience in the process of guiding others through it.

In the morning I meet with the mentors and take them through the art activity and then in the afternoon, the mentors do the same project with the students. I am there to coach and assist.

Here is a picture of Mennuo. He is a mentor and this is his pot. He has named it, "The Trust". It is a boat. His description was that sometimes when trust is broken, putting it back together may look very different but you must keep moving forward.

In the afternoon, the students did the art project, Some of the students made amazing pots and learned a lot about how they experience trust and how open they are to relationships: some learned they are easy to give second chances, others learned they don't trust very easily. Some of the students built pots together. Some students really struggled with this assignment. After they had smashed the pot, they had difficulty seeing what was possible when rebuilding the pot was not an option because it was too badly shattered. Trusting our ability to make choices is a very important tool and some of these students are struggling with this -To see the various stages of the students was insightful and helpful as we strive to move them forward, from places of fear to places of confidence.
