How is Reckoning funded

Reckoning’s Charitable Programs:

ELA, LEAD and InSite

Currently, these projects are funded through private donations and grants. Through the generosity of the supporters and friends of Reckoning, as well as our partnership with various grant beneficiaries, these programs are able to exist in communities that are less fortunate.

Some of the our grant partners:

Private donations fund approximately 60% of all the charitable work Reckoning is doing.

Reckoning has no salaried staff. Each staff person of Reckoning volunteers the majority of their time and talent. Some of the staff receives small stipends, which are based on the projects and the funds available. Other staff positions are strictly voluntary.

Reckoning’s Professional Services

Reckoning is composed of professional teachers, artists and counselors who design, train, and coach others in our method of embedding character and leadership through art-making.

Character Development and Emotional Intelligence are seen as a growing trend in Education as it helps cultivate safe learning environments as violence, bullying and defiance threaten these objectives.

Levels of training and materials available:

  • Introductory level:
Reckoning has individual lesson plans which teachers, youth workers or afterschool workers can use with students. These lesson plans are designed to facilitate character and leadership in the students.
  • Apprentice Level:
Reckoning offers training and coaching in a complete project. A project is designed to take students through a 4-7 week art centered project. These projects can be adapted to a classroom, an afterschool program or a religious youth center. They can be adapted to meet reading, writing, math or art curriculum objectives, depending on how they are implemented. These projects focus on a key character quality and takes the student through a self reflective process. Watch our video on, “the superhero in me” for an example.
  • Immersion Level:
Reckoning has a 5 day course in our Method in embedding character and leadership in a classroom, after-school program or in-school program. After this 5 day workshop, a new level of transformation will equip those to bring out more meaning and depth in the everyday lessons taught in to the students.
Reckoning uses this manual in our mentor training in LEAD, in our ELA training for schools and communities, and with our high school students in InSite.
  • Reckoning Transforming Teacher Level:
Join our team of professional trainers. These trainers are released to offer coaching and workshops. They volunteer in our charitable programs and are mentors to new apprentices, while others continue to develop and write new lesson plans and projects with our artists.
